If you run a franchised outlet that does mobile services then most likely you will either work out of your home or a partial home office until your business gets up and running. Since, the size of your company will be small at that point, a limited liability company or LLC does make a lot of sense to protect your assets, and therefore it makes sense to look into this, learn about it, and then seek the appropriate legal advice to get it done correctly.
What is an LLC? It is a limited liability company and it is a way to legally protect yourself from judgments and lawsuits. Since, we live in a very litigious society it makes sense to do this. Mobile service businesses open themselves up to a lot of legal exposure and when your work vehicles have a national brand name on the side, this makes them a target for lawsuits from “get rich quickers” who are out to retire early by suing the ever living crap out of some business.
As a former Franchise Company Founder of a mobile auto services franchising company, I always explained this to my franchisees and recommended that they talk to an attorney about their situation and figure out an asset protection strategy in case of a lawsuit. I do remember a few over the years that our franchisees have to deal with, and I am certain their LLCs assisted them in protecting all that they had built and everything they had earned along the way. So please consider all this, I am serious.
