When it comes to their health, a lot of people are pretty bad at spotting and paying attention to potential signs of illness. Part of this probably comes down to denial. After all, no one really wants anything to be wrong, and if you can go through life assuming you’re fine, then that’s always going to be more pleasant than confronting the potential for getting sick. Then again, there some symptoms that you should never ignore, no matter what. However, a lot of the symptoms you see on these kinds of lists online are things like “coughing up blood,” and I don’t know about you but I can’t think of a world in which that happening would be something you could just ignore! With that in mind, here are some more subtle symptoms that you might not pay attention to but that should never ignore.
Joint pain
One of the things that many of us just seem to come to terms with in adult life is that part of our bodies are just going to start hurting and feeling uncomfortable every now and then. This is a bizarre attitude for so many of us to have, when you think about it.
After all, if you were suffering from many other symptoms that persisted as much as pain in your joints, you wouldn’t just write it off as “something that just happens as you get older” would you? The reality is that joint pain can be a sign of any number of things with a number of different treatments.
Whether you see your GP about it or look at things like functional medicine as a treatment. Being able to combat joint pain is often very simple as long as you’re willing to make the effort to do something about it.
Persistant cough
A cough is one of those things that most of us think of as little more than an inconvenience. Sure, it’s annoying and can make life more difficult but it’s hardly the end of the world, is it? Well, most of the time no, it’s not. But a cough can easily be one of the subtle symptoms of something more serious.
That statement is especially true if it sticks around for more than a couple of weeks. If you’ve been coughing for the last couple of months, even if it’s not getting any worse, then that’s something that you’re going to want to look into.
Obviously, it’s worth paying attention to the aspects of your lifestyle that might be contributing but if you feel like you’ve been coughing for absolutely no reason for a long time then that’s not something you want to ignore.
No energy
Of all of the subtle symptoms, this one one can be the trickiest because, let’s face it, most of us are just tired all of the time. Most of the time that simply comes down to the reality is that the modern world isn’t one that rewards being able to get enough sleep the vast majority of the time.
After all, most of us work long hours then have families to take care of and on top of that, you’ve got chores and other tasks and finally, you’ve got to maintain some semblance of a social life. The reality is that, with all of that going on, it’s no wonder that most of us are exhausted.
A lot of the time this is simply down to not getting enough sleep. However, if you’re doing everything you can to get enough sleep and you’re avoiding overexerting yourself, and yet you’re still tired every single day, that could be the sign of something else going on and talking to your GP about it is always a good idea.
